Sir Humphry Davy
1778 -1829

In 1807, shortly after learning of the invention of the Voltaic pile, Davy applied the new technology.  He isolated the elements sodium and potassium by electrolysis of moletn salts.  In 1808, he isolated barium, strontium, and calcium from their molten salts.  In 1816 he discovered the catalytic action of platinum on the oxidation of organic gases.
